Star Wars: The Old Republic Cinematic Trailer

Posted by JeTsEt4R- On June - 4 - 2009

While massively multiplayer online games started off being little more than virtual drudgery–requiring you to fight the same monsters over and over again until your character got strong enough to fight the next level of monsters–Star Wars: The Old Republic is looking to go in an entirely new direction. The game will be more or less entirely story-driven, and your story experience will be based on your selection of character class, as well as the choices you make along the way.

This is a cinematic trailer called ‘Deceived’. While this is not gameplay footage, this is still incredibly impressive and shows off some of the style of this new undated MMO.

Here is a link to first impressions of gameplay in Star Wars: TOR. This demonstration is a preview of the bounty hunter class.

Assassins Creed 2 Live Demo

Posted by JeTsEt4R- On June - 4 - 2009

Assassin’s Creed 2 was shown to a live audience for the first time at Sony’s E3 2009 press conference.
Although there was not enough gameplay footage shown at E3 of Assassins Creed II, the demo did show a lot of promise in the new game from ubisoft.

You won’t be playing as an assassin, though, at least not at the outset. Rather, you’ll be playing as a nobleman on a quest for vengeance who, as you progress through the game, will learn to be even more lethal than the first game’s Altair. Assisting you on your quest will be Leonardo Da Vinci, a personal friend who serves as your personal inventor and affords you access to all manner of gadgets–his famous flying machine.

Left 4 Dead 2 announced

Posted by coblos On June - 2 - 2009

Valve have officially revealed details for Left 4 Dead 2 (L4D2), as part of the Microsoft Pre-E3 Press Conference. It was announced as part of an X-Box 360 line up, and was also confirmed that the game would be coming to PC.

Scheduled for release 17th November 2009

“A large part of how Left 4 Dead became 2008’s top-selling new IP on Xbox 360 and the PC was the custom-tailored game play made possible by the AI Director. With the knowledge gained from creating the original, new technology, and a passionate team, L4D2 will set a new benchmark for cooperative action games.”

“The new game introduces the AI Director 2.0, and takes game play to the next level, giving the Director the ability to change world objects, weather effects and pathways, as well as tailoring sounds, effects and even the enemy population in order to match individual player performance – meaning that every unique game session can be fitted to suit, providing a “satisfying and uniquely challenging experience”. There’s new Survivors, new boss zombies, new weapons, new items – a much bigger game than the original, with more campaigns (both co-op and Versus), and new maps available at launch.”

“Left 4 Dead 2 is set at roughly the same time as the original – just after the outbreak that turned most of the population into various zombie mutants. Players assume the role of 4 new “Survivors,” each with their own personality and new dialog. The game leads these “Survivors” through the southeastern region of the US – from Savannah, Georgia thru the bayou country, and climaxing in New Orleans’ French Quarter.”

Assassins Creed 2 details leaked?

Posted by JeTsEt4R- On April - 13 - 2009

On Monday, Ubisoft set the gears of the Assassin’s Creed 2 hype machine in motion, launching a teaser site for the sequel to 2007’s well-received multiplatform action adventure. Visitors to the site are greeted with a brief Flash clip panning through the journal of famed Italian inventor Leonardo da Vinci. The short teaser ends with word that a full review of Assassin’s Creed 2 is expected to arrive with the upcoming issue of Game Informer magazine, which is owned by retailer GameStop.

On its Web site today (Apr 10, 2009), Game Informer confirmed that Assassin’s Creed 2 will indeed be the cover story of its upcoming issue. The site also noted in a brief blurb that the title will be set in “Renaissance-era Venice” and will follow the travails of new protagonist Ezio, a young Italian noble. For more on its “world exclusive,” the blurb teases, gamers will have to spring for the May issue of the mag…

…or wait until the Internet gets its collective hands on it a week early. Yesterday, a poster on Ubisoft’s official forums offered a detailed accounting of purported Assassin’s Creed 2 information that will be included in the May issue of Game Informer. (Before the post was deleted by a Ubisoft forums administrator, a GameFAQs user secured a copy of the original message.)

The post offers a litany of alleged details on Assassin’s Creed 2. According to the original message, the game will offer a number of famous Venetian locales, including da Vinci’s workshop, Saint Mark’s Basilica, The Grand Canal, The Little Canal, and the Rialto Bridge. Players will also supposedly be afforded trips through the Tuscan countryside, circa 1476. A number of historical figures will also reportedly be present, including Niccolo Machiavelli, Caterina Sofrza, and Lorenzo de Medici, the latter of which is said to be the subject of an assassination attempt.

Ezio–full name Ezio Auditore de Firenze–will apparently have a number of weapons to choose from, including “an axe, a hammer, a mace, a spear, two different sword types, a [halberd], and two smaller blades.” Each weapon is said to have a special move associated with it, and Ezio will be able to disarm opponents and use their fumbled weaponry against them.

Continuing with the Venice theme, swimming will reportedly be an option in the game. And, as speculated following Ubisoft’s official teaser, the leaked details claim that Ezio will be able to take to the skies using da Vinci’s flying machine. The report also states that a day-and-night cycle has been added to the game.

Moving on to specific gameplay details, the Game Informer reveal will also reportedly say that Assassin’s Creed will sport 16 mission types, a dramatic increase over the original’s four. Two mission types supposedly not included, however, will be eavesdropping and pickpocketing. A number of new enemy types are said to have been added, including archers, “as well as elite enemies, dagger wielders, ‘Brutish’ armored troops with heavy armor and two-handed swords and axes, and an intelligent halberd enemy will probe hiding places with their weapons if they think you’re nearby.”

The post goes on to state that Assassin’s Creed 2 will also include a number of holdover mechanics from the original, including tower climbing and horseback riding, and assassinations can now reportedly be performed while Ezio is concealed in a stack of hay. Hidden objects will also return, though the report indicates that players will gain in-game benefits by hunting them down this time around.

The official story: “I can confirm that the information in the upcoming Game Informer magazine is factually correct,” a word-mincing Ubisoft representative told GameSpot.

Bogus or not bogus?: Looking not bogus. However, it’s impossible to say with certainty whether the forum poster was accurate in his details until Game Informer hits newsstands next week.

TF2 Update – 19/03/09

Posted by coblos On March - 19 - 2009

Team Fortress 2

Today’s update adds multicore rendering which for some should add a decent performance boost especially in those big battles with lots of players that sometimes cause FPS to drop. It also finally fixes the crash on exit in Vista 64 which has been around since the game was released

Added Multicore Rendering

  • This initial release is aimed at testing compatibility, so the option is OFF by default
  • To turn it on, go to the Options->Video->Advanced dialog, and check the “Multicore Rendering” option

Other Changes

  • Several performance improvements to decals and client bone/flex setup
  • A variety of alt-tab and mode switch fixes
  • Improvements to the way the engine initializes surround sound, fixing some specific hardware cases
  • Fixed a crash on exit in Vista 64
